State Membership Meeting -- February 24-25, 2007
The Winter 2007 state membership meeting will be held on February 24 & 25 (Saturday and Sunday) at the UAW Local 771 Hall, 1640 Stephenson Highway, Troy, Michigan, 48083. The building is located on the east (northbound) side of Stephenson Highway, just west of I-75 and just north of the Maple Road (15 Mile) intersection. The building on the corner is Mon Jin Lau (Chinese restaurant), and the UAW hall is the very next building to the north. There are several motels and many restaurants within a two-mile radius.
Proposed Agenda:
Saturday, Feb 24
9:15 to 9:45 Setup, registration; coffee, bagels & donuts from Detroit Greens
9:45 to 10:00 Volunteers for evening's fundraising: Silent auction setup (Lynn Meadows)
10:00 to 10:45 National issues - presentation by national reps, questions, discussion (aside from Green Card Program, to be discussed in the afternoon)
10:45-11:00 break
11:00-11:45 State officers' reports, including the necessity to elect a new meeting manager
11:45-12:00 Meeting manager election, other elections if needed
12:00-12:30 Report on recent & upcoming Washington demonstrations
12:30-1:30 Lunch break
1:30-2:30 Pete Schermerhorn: Green Card Program and GPMI fundraising and sharing with GPUS
2:30-3:15 Ken Mathenia - Report on IRV work, discussion
3:15-3:30 Break
3:30-5:00 Fred Vitale's proposals
- What should GPMI do next? Two parts to this item - first, a discussion of the documents in Green Light and any other documents that can reach the membership two weeks before the meeting and second, a time for resolutions on what we should do to bring the discussion to some conclusions.
- I also propose that Green Light have this dual purpose for the subsequent SMMs. The paper could be another 4 pages for some articles more outwardly directed. We can save postage for the SMM notification and we can engage our members more by providing them with some idea of what we are going to talk about.
- Michigan should adopt the national outreach brochure as a basic outreach piece and add a one page supplement to it.
8:00-after midnight: Fundraiser - Bill Opalicky and Richard Kuszmar
Sunday, Feb 25
10:00 Doors open
John La Pietra - discussion of State of the State and response
Art Myatt - carbon tax
Doug Baker - Postcard outreach and possible expansion
Priscilla Dzuibek - New Nestle petition, other water work
FAME - Finding Alternatives to Military Enlistment
The Waking Up store in Universal Mall
The Third Party Coalition, proposed by Socialist Party of Michigan
